1.   MHM 2.0 Troubleshooting

This section provides troubleshooting information for issues that may occur with the Machine Health Monitoring 2.0 system during install or operation. Attached to this page is also a process flow describing the sense node 'cold start' process -- or the sense node power-up process.

1.1.       Installation or Configuration of Eversensor

1.1.1.   Issue: MHM 2.0 reported off or power lost, but machine is still on.

  • Ensure TEG is properly connected to the Eversensor unit with both cable ends firmly plugged in and screws are tight.
  • Check if cable orientation is correct. The right angled connector should only be connected to the Sensor body unit, while the straight connector should be connected to the TEG unit. The sun symbol should be facing up on the right angled side nearest the harvester, and the symbol on the straight end of the cable should match the symbol on the TEG. Photo #1.
  • Check if machine surface temperature is warm or hot to the touch.
    • The surface temperature and ambient temperature differential should be at least 10 degrees Celsius to ensure sufficient energy for power up.
  • Check if TEG surface has adequate contact area for heat harvesting unit to draw power from heat of the machine. If necessary, reposition the TEG to a different location for better heat contact.
  • If necessary, add an additional photovoltaic unit to improve energy harvesting capabilities.
  • If TEG and photovoltaic unit is not the problem, then consider changing the sensor.

1.2.  Wireless Communications

1.2.1.   Issue: Limited Range during Install

  • Ensure the antennas are well connected on the CN. Check that antennas are firmed screwed on. Loosen the antenna bracket if necessary to ensure that the coaxial connector is properly screwed on.
  • Verify the Eversensor has its top face, facing the Evergateway.
  • Place the Evergateway as high as possible to try and avoid interference in the path from the Evergateway to Eversensor.
  • Move the Evergateway to a location that is not obstructing line-of-sight between the Evergateway and Eversensor.

1.2.2.   Issue: Eversensor has disconnected wirelessly

  • Ensure the Eversensor has not been moved. If the Eversensor has been moved, reposition the Eversensor per section 3.4.
  • Ensure no other interferers have been added in the path from the Evergateway to Eversensor.
  • Check Evercloud to see if last good reading shows adequate voltage across VCAP (VCAP > 2.5V) for the sensor to power on.
  • If VCAP is <2.5V then check TEG or check steam system is on and there’s enough temperature to power the sensor.
